Giving Back to Those Who Give So Much …

Daisy-for-Website.jpgFor as long as I can remember, I’ve had a passion for animals.  When I was 10 years old, my first big purchase with money that I’d earned doing chores, was The Dog Encyclopedia.  I’d get lost for hours – day dreaming about all the dogs that I wanted to have in my life!

As an adult, my first fur child was Miss Chloe, a beautiful Himalayan cat.  Miss Chloe was soon joined by my sweet cairn terrier, Rosey and my vivacious ‘Chowbador’, Sophie.  My three girls were the light of my life.  Unfortunately, in the space of a year and a half, all three left me and went back to the angels.

Sophie was the youngest and was diagnosed with cancer just before her 10th birthday.  I was devastated at her passing and was still grieving over the loss of Miss Chloe and Rosey – I was convinced that I’d never be able to love another animal the way I loved my precious fur daughters.

And then something miraculous happened, I met Suzanne Fox, founder of Wild Heir Labrador Rescue (WHLR).  I was touched by the stories of all the incredible, loving Labbys, who for one reason or another had been abandoned and neglected.  I began volunteering with WHLR and at a fundraiser, Suzanne told me she had someone for me to meet.  I told her it was much too soon after losing Sophie and I couldn’t possibly open my heart to another dog!  Then I met Daisy and I realized just how wrong I was … this sweet, loving Labby Chow looked up at me with her big brown eyes and my heart melted.  She was so trusting, even after being left in a high kill shelter by her heartless owner.  I’m now a true believer in adopting rescue animals versus purchasing a pet.  The rewards of being Daisy’s forever mom are priceless!

I encourage you to visit the WHLR website at www.wildheirlabradorrescue.org and check my website often as I’ll keep you posted on upcoming Labby events as well as special sales of my jewelry with a portion of the proceeds going to WHLR.

Blessings,
Melissa
